The Traveler is a student creative arts magazine produced annually by the English and Art Departments of Glendale Community College, AZ. The content is all student submitted work selected by a large group of judges. I was asked to design the look and theme for the 48th volume and I worked alongside a production team for the layout. Throughout the process, I was impressed by the talent, thought, care, and passion that came from the artwork and stories. I was honored to be able to design the platform that exhibited these pieces.
My first step was to choose a visual theme for The Traveler and I chose patterns. I designed a different pattern for each section and each pattern was designed to reflect a different travel destination around the world. I also drew inspiration from the Arts and Crafts Movement to unify my designs.
After creating my theme, I carefully thought out and selected the typefaces, page size, margin and collumn size, and image sizes. With the help of an awesome production team and amazing faculty, we produced an award winning magazine!
